Dermot Kilmurray, a native of Rhode, County Offaly started a concrete business on Mullingar’s Patrick Street in 1990 making handmade concrete products. We moved to our current base in Zone C, Mullingar Business Park a year later.
Dermot started off with just two staff, Frank Lyons, and the late Sonny Mullen.
In 1996, Kilmurrays Precast Concrete Ltd was incorporated and we began supplying building materials before branching into concrete and readymix production two years later.
Kilmurray Precast Concrete Ltd purchased a 220-acre site at Derryarkin, Rhode, Co Offaly and subsequently received planning permission from Offaly County Council to use the site for sand and gravel production.
Following substantial investment in plant and equipment, the quarry was opened in 2006 under the management of Dermot’s son Conor and we have been supplying a variety of stone, gravel, sand and aggregate types to builders, farmers and one-off customers ever since, as well as for our own use. We can supply a wide variety of crushed stone, gravel and aggregate types to farmers for drainage, filling, road-making and construction purposes.
We sold our concrete division at the end of 2014 and in early 2015, we built a state of the art 8,000 square foot Hardware Store. We have expanded our range of building supplies, hardware and DIY products. We continue to supply all varieties of round and abrasive stone from our quarry.
Kilmurrays Hardware continue to employ 25 staff in the Mullingar & Rhode division.
We have also refocused our business on garden landscaping with a large selection of paving, stone, brick, fencing and garden furniture which is on show at the front of our new Hardware Store.
We also supply an extensive range of Dulux paint, wood flooring and doors, tools and electrical supplies, work wear, bathroom accessories and household cleaning products.
Ken Eades, our hardware manager, is the frontman of the hardware business for the last 20 years. We have a strong loyal team of employees in Kilmurrays Hardware with extensive experience and knowledge of the hardware business.
