Shopify, the Canadian e-commerce giant once regarded as the big winner of the pandemic’s online shopping boom, shed at least 20 jobs in Ireland this week.

This week the IMF warned the world is teetering on the edge of a global recession. The IMF is now forecasting global GDP growth will be 3.2pc in 2022, revised down heavily since its last forecasts in April. In doing so, the IMF highlighted a plethora of headwinds facing many economies; stronger than expected inflation, fresh Covid19 waves and associated lockdowns in China, the spill-overs from the conflict in Ukraine and interest rate hikes from many Central Banks.
