The prospect of European recession comes into view as Putin tightens the gas taps

This week the IMF warned the world is teetering on the edge of a global recession. The IMF is now forecasting global GDP growth will be 3.2pc in 2022, revised down heavily since its last forecasts in April. In doing so, the IMF highlighted a plethora of headwinds facing many economies; stronger than expected inflation, fresh Covid19 waves and associated lockdowns in China, the spill-overs from the conflict in Ukraine and interest rate hikes from many Central Banks.
